so what's this??

so here we have two Braves teamcards from the 1980 Topps set.

Front One
Front Two (btw, I LOVE the red pants)
The back of Front Two looks like this... just like the other cards in the set...
the back of Front One looks like this...
it is also a lot thinner card stock. It's not from any food packaging, and it's not OPC.... what is it from?
One of you who collected baseball in 1980 will know the answer I'm sure. Help a Canuck out...

My guess is it was part of an MLB team cards set that you could send away for in 1980.

I don't have specific knowledge of collectors being able to do that in 1980, but they were able to do it in the mid-to-late '70s (and I did so). The team cards you received from those mail orders were thinner and on lighter stock than the team cards that were in packs.

Night Owl is right. I had a set from the 80s. One quirk in 1980 though, I believe the checklists you sent away for in 1980 were part of a sheet and you had to cut them yourself. You'll find lots of 1980 team checklists on the thin, light card stock that are cut poorly.

Of course, I could be wrong.

I was curious, too. I have similar cards of the Cardinals team from 1979 and 1980.

yup. chris and the wise owl are correct. pretty sure it was a wrapper redemption with p&h and you would received a sheet. i did it in 79 and 80 for sure, and i remember being really nervous when my dad was cutting up the sheets.
